Role Description
This is a full-time, on‑site Assistant Accountant role based in Luton. The Assistant Accountant will support the preparation of tax returns, annual accounts, and bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of small business clients. Typical duties include processing invoices and receipts, reconciling bank accounts, assisting with payroll, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role also involves liaising with clients, gathering required documentation, responding to queries, and supporting senior accountants with ad‑hoc administrative and accounting tasks. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering timely, compliant, and high‑quality services in a client‑focused environment.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including double‑entry bookkeeping, reconciliations, and preparation of ledgers and journals.
- Experience with accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Xero, Moneysoft or similar) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple client files, prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate, well‑organized records.
- Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues, both in person and in writing.
- Previous experience in a practice or small business accounting environment is highly beneficial.
- Working toward or holding an accounting qualification (e.g., AAT or equivalent) is essential.
- Willingness to learn, adapt to changing regulations and systems, and contribute positively to a collaborative team culture.
