Location: Glasgow
Job Description:

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

How’s this for job satisfaction: at Scottish Water we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we are guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.

Sound good? We’re looking for a Control Engineer (Control Room Shift Operator) to join the ICC.

Joining the ICC means becoming part of a critical service that supports essential infrastructure, playing a key role in ensuring safe and reliable operations. You will work within a highly collaborative and supportive team environment, where knowledge sharing and teamwork are encouraged.

This role also offers excellent opportunities to develop and broaden your skills across a range of systems and processes. In return, you will benefit from a competitive salary, including a shift allowance and a comprehensive benefits package.

What you’ll do

  • Responsible for monitoring and responding to telemetry alarms across multiple systems, maintaining continuous awareness of asset performance and identifying emerging issues.
  • Take appropriate action to manage and elevate operational events, supporting incident response through clear communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Accurately log events and actions within ICC systems, and collaborate with the wider shift team to maintain operational resilience.
  • Apply standard operating procedures consistently and effectively to ensure safe and efficient operations.

What you’ll bring

  • Calm and methodical approach, even within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability for decision making, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Focus on safety, risk awareness, and operational performance.
  • Experience working in a control room, operational, or process-driven environment, with the ability to assess information quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proactive, disciplined approach to following procedures.
  • Good IT skills and comfort working across multiple systems, with flexibility to work a 24/7 shift pattern.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work‑life balance.

You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family‑friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You will participate in a company bonus scheme. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not‑so‑small print

This role will be a Grade 4. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £31,640. Performance‑driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £36,460.

Any successful candidate would need to undergo Counter Terrorist Checks prior to starting.

You can apply until midnight on the 16th July 2026.
