We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Primary Care team at HMP Hewell, a category C men’s prison in the village of Tardebigge in Worcestershire.

Hours

This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week: 7am – 8pm (3 long days per week) & 1.5 weekends in a month.

Salary

Annual salary of £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, dependent on experience.

Candidates are required to have legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
  • Facilitate clinics, including bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health checks, etc.
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages
  • Support the nursing team with all aspects of care
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
  • Support receptions (new patients entering the prison) and assist with triaging new patients
  • Primarily work within the Primary Care team but also required to carry out duties in the Substance Misuse team

What We’ll Look For In You

We are looking for caring, compassionate but also driven professionals who can help us drive our vision for a fair and inclusive healthcare access to all.

  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
  • Have experience within phlebotomy – highly desirable
  • Have experience in a clinical care setting previously – ideally from a hospital or prison setting
  • Have clinical experience – venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
