What You’ll Do

  • Learn to coordinate cargo bookings and make sure shipment details are confirmed and passed on to clients promptly.
  • Manage and accurately process all shipment documentation.
  • Collaborate with overseas agents to ensure compliance with booking instructions.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate records of all bookings and shipments in internal systems.
  • Negotiate with carriers to provide clients with competitive quotes for various modes of transport (sea, air, and cross‑trade).
  • Liaise with clients about changes to shipment terms, costs, or quotations.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing enquiries and concerns with professionalism and care, ensuring timely resolutions that enhance client satisfaction and build lasting relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure operational efficiency, compliance with transport regulations, and alignment with client expectations.
  • Support business development by researching market conditions, competitive rates, and identifying opportunities to upsell additional services.
  • Take part in your apprenticeship training and apply what you learn back in the office.
  • Handle client enquiries and offer tailored solutions and services with competitive pricing.
  • Liaise with clients, overseas partners, and suppliers to coordinate shipments from origin to destination, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Provide clients with real‑time shipment status updates via online dashboards, portals, or email—based on the client’s preference.
  • Obtain, verify, and process necessary shipping documentation, ensuring compliance with customs regulations (HMRC).
  • Ensure shipments are fully released by Customs, port authorities and carriers together with correct bill of lading releases.
  • Issue invoices as per agreed terms and ensure timely payments before delivery.
  • Arrange and schedule deliveries according to the client’s needs, ensuring logistics align with their expectations.
  • Resolve client queries and complaints with a customer‑first mindset, delivering an exceptional experience throughout the process.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to foster trust, retain business, and identify growth opportunities.

Training Outcome

  • On completing the apprenticeship, there are a few directions to grow in. Many go on to a permanent role within our Bookings team, building on what they’ve learned.
  • From there, routes open up into our Operations team or into Sales Support, depending on where your strengths and interests lie.
  • This tends to become clearer as you train and get a feel for the different sides of the business, and we’ll support you in finding the path that suits you best.
