Position Overview
This is a new consultant post. The post holder will work closely with the existing radiology team to support the development of imaging services across UHL.
Coverage includes inpatient and ED musculoskeletal imaging as part of a 1 in 10 in‑hours rota, and there is opportunity to join a 1 in 30 general ED/IP rota with on‑call responsibilities.
The appointment is whole time. Consultants unable to work full time for personal reasons may be considered; any adjustments will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with colleagues.
A major refurbishment programme of all Trust MRI and CT scanners has recently been completed, ensuring the availability of the latest technology.
The service has strong academic links, and opportunities to engage in research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and clinical governance are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake programmed activities in musculoskeletal imaging, with opportunities for development of the existing service in line with local needs and Trust plans.
- Support provision of imaging in rheumatology, pain and spinal imaging.
- Support emergency imaging across UHL.
- Supervise junior medical staff.
- Review MSK & trauma imaging performed as emergency within and out of hours.
- Lead or participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Contribute to training of Specialist Registrars on the East Midland Deanery (South) radiology training scheme.
- Supervise and train skill‑mix radiographers, sonographers and non‑medical staff.
- Support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
- Participate in the diagnostic on‑call rota within UHL and assist in providing weekend radiological support.
- Participate in provision of sarcoma services in the region, including the sarcoma MDT and US/US-guided biopsy service.
- Desirable ability to perform CT-guided bone biopsy interventions.
