Job Description:

Salary: £22,500 – 38,500 per year

Requirements

  • We need proven ability to deliver customer-centric, value-driven solutions within a fast-paced software development lifecycle.
  • We need strong hands-on production experience building applications using React and Next.js.
  • We need a testing mindset with personal accountability for quality, backed by experience writing unit tests and using tools such as Jest or Playwright.
  • We need a solid understanding of web accessibility standards and experience building highly accessible user interfaces.
  • We need practical experience optimizing application performance, including bundle size and rendering efficiency, and familiarity with tools such as Lighthouse and GCP CDNs.
  • We need demonstrated experience identifying, locating, and resolving production service faults.
  • We need experience collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams and coaching or mentoring junior engineering colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • We will expect you to develop scalable React and Next.js applications while defining clear component boundaries.
  • We will expect you to build modern UI libraries or integrate with existing ones to ensure consistency across applications.
  • We will expect you to design and document component library standards and patterns, and connect the frontend to backend services using RESTful APIs.
  • We will expect you to own the testing and quality of your code, with support and guidance from Test Engineers.
  • We will expect you to write clean code following modern web and accessibility standards, with unit testing as an everyday practice.
  • We will expect you to establish effective frontend testing strategies using frameworks like Jest and Playwright.
  • We will expect you to proactively pitch technical ideas and optimizations and take ownership of technical tasks.
  • We will expect you to optimize application performance, focusing on bundle size, rendering efficiency, and Core Web Vitals.
  • We will expect you to audit site speed using tools like Lighthouse and help design secure, performant GCP content delivery solutions.
  • We will expect you to drive a customer-centric mindset and promote a test-and-learn approach to engineering and problem-solving.
  • We will expect you to act as an accessibility champion and advocate for genuine user needs.
  • We will expect you to coach and mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a healthy engineering culture.
  • We will expect you to explain complex technical concepts in clear, non-technical language to internal and external stakeholders.
