Data Governance Manager

We are seeking a Data Governance Manager to join our innovative and exceptional data team at Funding Circle. The role sits within our senior data leadership team and reports to the VP Data. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between technical execution and business value. You will be an advocate for data ownership, quality, and literacy across the organisation, and you will own the change and implementation.

The role

• Operationalise Ownership: work with engineering and product squads to define and implement data ownership, helping teams move from “I just build the app” to “I provide high-quality data products.”
• Implement the “Data as a Product” culture: hold teams accountable for treating data with the same rigor as software – including versioning, data contracts, SLAs/SLOs, and clear documentation.
• Hands‑on Quality Frameworks: define and implement data quality dimensions (accuracy, completeness, freshness) and set up automated monitoring.
• Define and own the Metadata Strategy: lead the effort in making our data discoverable and keep the data catalog as a living resource for the company.
• Pragmatic Governance: balance governance to ensure security and privacy without slowing the pace of innovation.
• Bridge Technical & Legal Compliance: partner with the Legal team to translate privacy regulations into actionable technical processes; lead the implementation of automated DSAR and design pragmatic Data Retention & Deletion policies.

What we’re looking for

• Passionate about Funding Circle’s values and the mission to support small businesses with their finance needs.
• Subject‑matter expertise in finance or credit‑card background working in data analytics or data governance.
• Proficiency in SQL and modern data stacks (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow) and how governance tools integrate into a CI/CD workflow.
• Exceptional translation skill: communicate data contracts with engineering and ROI with product, moving confidently between those worlds.
