Location: London or Edinburgh (Hybrid)
Our client is a specialist financial services consultancy, working with a Tier‑1 financial institution and building a modern, online‑only banking product from the ground up. As part of a major scale‑up of their engineering organisation, they are seeking experienced Java backend engineers at Senior and Principal level to join squads shaping the platform’s architecture and delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design and build microservices and event‑driven backend services using Java 11/17+ and Spring Boot.
- Work within small, focused squads with direct ownership over architecture decisions and delivery.
- Deploy and manage services on AWS, using modern CI/CD practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders and other engineers in a fast‑moving agile environment.
- Contribute to architecture discussions and technical direction as the platform and team scale.
- At Principal level, support wider engineering initiatives such as mentoring, RFP input and technical leadership across squads.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong Java expertise (11, 17+) with hands‑on Spring Boot experience.
- Experience with microservices, event‑driven architecture and Kafka.
- Solid AWS or equivalent public cloud experience.
- Background in fintech, banking & financial services or product development.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, comfortable owning problems end‑to‑end rather than working within a large, diffuse team.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tooling as part of everyday workflow.
- Based in London (3 days per week onsite) or Edinburgh (1 day per month onsite).
Why Join
- Apply now: Join at an early stage of a significant, well‑backed build and shape squads and architecture rather than inherit an established structure.
- Structure: Genuine investment in your development – a minimum of 40 hours of training annually, plus a dedicated business coach from day one.
- Clear progression path with mentoring and leadership opportunities built in.
- Strong, well‑rounded benefits, including discretionary bonus, competitive pension, private health and life cover, and enhanced family and wellbeing support.
