About the role

The short breaks service for children with disabilities within the City of York has an exciting opportunity for support workers to join our short breaks team in York. The service is based within a purpose-built centre for children with disabilities, ensuring innovative, flexible and integrated services. Our Short Breaks offer a variety of short break packages including community and residential short breaks provisions for children and young people with autism, challenging behaviours, learning disabilities and/or additional and complex health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and direct care to children and young people with disabilities.
  • Contribute to and support the development of placement plans, risk assessments and positive behaviour support plans.
  • Assist with community and residential short break provisions.
  • Participate in the 4‑week rolling rota, covering early and late shifts and weekends on‑weekend off.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children with disabilities is preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in social care, enthusiasm and a passion for working with children to support their development is essential.
  • Good spoken English to CEFR level C1.
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • Ability to study towards a Level 3 childcare qualification if not already obtained.
  • Driving licence desirable (car drivers).
