Arboriculture Supervisor

Environmental Services Arboricultural Department undertakes tree work across the city. Wolverhampton has a tree stock of approximately 280,000 trees. We are responsible for routine and risk‑based inspections of our tree stock, planned and reactive maintenance and emergency out of hours call‑out provision.
We are looking for an experienced supervisor/manager to lead the arboriculture service. Reporting directly to the Public Realm Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of in‑house Arboricultural teams, tree inspectors, and contractors. Leading on Health and Safety and implementing excellent standards across the teams, you will manage resources as required, making informed decisions and communicating with senior managers, councillors and other stakeholders.
The successful candidate will require:
- Full valid UK driving licence.
- NPTC CS 30, 31a&b, 38, 39 Tree climbing and aerial rescue
- In‑depth experience working in the Arboriculture industry
- A proven record of managing/supervising arboriculture teams preferably in the public sector
- Good communication skills
- Experience in the use of Asset Management systems, such as Confirm
- Knowledge in Health & Safety Management, Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to the Arboriculture Industry
- Knowledge of contract management
- In‑depth knowledge of Arboricultural best practice and industry standards, including BS3998
- Experience of tendering and procurement processes
- Good knowledge of relevant pests and diseases, the ability to identify them and assess potential impact, making proportionate management recommendations.
- Experience in line management of staff, attendance management and staff development
- Experience in the application of Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) or a comparable risk assessment methodology to inform proportionate, defensible tree management decisions.
- Ability to make informed, evidence‑based and defensible decisions in relation to tree safety and public risk.
- Ability to manage enquiries, complaints and sensitive issues in a professional manner.
