About the role
Gloucestershire County Council is seeking an ambitious, forward‑thinking Road Safety Manager to lead its flagship programme. This is a unique opportunity to deliver large‑scale change: reducing casualties, enabling active travel and helping us achieve our Vision Zero ambition.
Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team and work closely with partners such as Police, Fire and Rescue, Public Health and National Highways.
- Deliver Safer Roads and Community 20mph schemes across 150+ communities.
- Oversee the annual collision reduction programme.
- Deploy average speed cameras.
- Use data, AI and behavioural insight to improve safety outcomes.
- Influence major projects such as the Cycle Spine, Bus Service Improvement Plan and active travel infrastructure to shape a safer, more sustainable network.
Qualifications
We’re looking for a confident, resilient leader with a passion for road safety and community impact. You champion the Safe System approach and key programmes, using engineering, data and behavioural insight to ensure investment is well‑targeted and outcomes are delivered. You excel at bringing people together and managing delivery in a complex, political environment, building trusted relationships with Members, partners and stakeholders.
Curiosity and openness to new ideas, along with the ability to use data and digital tools, are essential. Whether you bring experience in road safety, highways or another related field, transferable skills and a willingness to grow are equally valued.
