Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist

We are looking for an experienced Radiographer or Technologist to work in our Nuclear Medicine department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, on a fixed‑term 12 month maternity cover contract. This role will provide an opportunity to join a cutting‑edge Nuclear Medicine department and ensure a high‑quality service administering radiopharmaceuticals and performing Nuclear Medicine scans, including PET‑CT. You will be supported by senior Technologists, Consultants, management and dedicated Physics and Admin staff.

You will be expected to have technical expertise as well as good clinical knowledge, to respond to challenges and to work cooperatively as part of a large MDT. As a senior Technologist or Radiographer you will help ensure effective day‑to‑day operations of the service, be resourceful and innovative to ensure prompt service delivery and timely care for our patients, and maintain good relationships with colleagues.

We see a wide range of patients of all ages and perform a variety of clinical studies, including cardiac, paediatric and PET‑CT. The service currently runs Monday‑Friday but is expanding to include weekend work. Some work at our satellite department in Haywards Heath is required. The role is suitable for a dynamic individual who is looking to broaden their experience and make a positive contribution to the future development of UHSussex Nuclear Medicine.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess patient referrals, manage care, safely prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, and scan patients.
  • Perform image processing and produce results to the highest technical standards.
  • Supervise Technologists / radiographers and support staff as required.
  • Support the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist, PET‑CT Superintendent and Lead Superintendent, working collaboratively with other clinical colleagues to provide an efficient and effective service.
  • Work within regulatory frameworks and follow all Local Rules and Standard Operating Procedures designed to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and associated regulations.
  • Perform duties in all Nuclear Medicine departments, including weekend and evening work as required.

Job responsibilities

Perform routine scanning, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, patient care and other tasks set by the Chief Technologist, PET‑CT Superintendent and senior technologists.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role‑specific criteria.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Understanding of the risks associated with radioactive sources (open and sealed sources) and CT to patients and staff.
  • Knowledge of general policies and procedures of a Nuclear Medicine department.
  • Previous experience of student mentorship.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
