Job Description
We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Drainage Engineer to join our team at a time of significant growth, helping to deliver sustainable drainage, flood alleviation and coal tip remediation projects that create safer, more resilient communities for the future.

Your Team: Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in our Communities business, focused on the delivery of services to Rhondda Cynon Taff, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Councils. The successful start of a new contract in April 2025 and the increase in service requests for drainage work and flood alleviation means that the Infrastructure Drainage team needs to expand.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing complex drainage schemes from conception through to delivery.
- Quality assurance checks.
- Develop drainage solutions for highway, infrastructure and site development schemes for feasibility, planning, tender, detailed design and construction support stages of the project.
- Design of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) with good knowledge of relevant current standards and guidelines and contemporary environmental solutions to manage land drainage.
- Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of you and team members.
- Take responsibility for your own personal development and the development of others.
Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualifications or someone working towards a professional qualification.
- Strong experience of feasibility to detailed design delivery and oversight compliant with SuDS.
- Manual, Sewers for Adoptions, DMRB, Local Design Specifications, CDM 2015 and BIM.
- Preparation and approval of contract documents and specifications.
- Clear evidence of successful delivery of projects/programmes and teams to meet both quality and commercial targets.
- Skilled in the use of Civil 3D, Causeway Flow, or Micro-Drainage.
- Knowledge and understanding of the SAB process.
- Ability to discuss and review the proposed solution with contractor, clients and external bodies such as SAB, LLFA’s, Statutory Undertakers, EA, NRW, etc.
- Construction support and survey supervision.
- S19 Reports, responding to planning application with a knowledge of S38/278 highway schemes and S104/106 drainage schemes.
