Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Security Operations Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
The Security Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day security operations across the site, ensuring the effective delivery of security services through both in‑house coordination and third‑party providers. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, compliant, and secure environment through proactive management, auditing, and incident response.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Security Lead in the delivery of site security operations, ensuring alignment with the agreed security strategy and management plan
- Oversee the day‑to‑day activities of the third‑party security provider to ensure compliance with site‑specific security procedures, policies, and standards
- Monitor the effectiveness of deployed security resources, ensuring they are operating in accordance with the Security Management Plan and fulfilling their defined roles
- Identify and escalates any gaps, non‑compliance, or performance issues to the Security Lead, supporting corrective actions and continuous improvement
Third‑Party Security Operations
- Oversee the daily activities of the contracted security team, ensuring effective delivery of on‑site security operations
- Provide direction and guidance to security personnel to ensure adherence to site procedures, standards, and expectations
- Monitor attendance, deployment, and performance of security staff during shifts, ensuring adequate coverage at all times
- Address day‑to‑day operational issues, resolving or escalating as appropriate to maintain safe and efficient operations
- Support the continuous improvement of frontline security delivery through coaching, feedback, and practical adjustments
Site Auditing & Compliance
- Plan and carry out regular and ad hoc security audits to ensure compliance with project standards
- Identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions to improve site security posture
- Ensure documentation, records, and audit trails are accurate and maintained
Support to Security Leadership
- Provide operational support to the Security Lead in delivering the overall security strategy
- Assist in policy development, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Deputise for the Security Lead when required
Incident & Investigation Management
- Lead and assist in security investigations, including incidents, breaches, and near‑misses
- Gather evidence, conduct interviews, and prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agencies (e.g., law enforcement) when required
Out‑of‑Hours Support
- Conduct out‑of‑hours site visits and audits to ensure security standards are consistently maintained
- Provide on‑call support for incidents requiring management oversight outside normal working hours
Continuous Improvement
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to enhance security operations
- Implement improvements to processes, procedures, and training
- Promote a strong security culture across the site
Who we’re looking for
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a security management or operations role
- Experience managing third‑party/contracted security services
- Strong understanding of security auditing, risk management, and compliance
- Experience in conducting investigations and incident management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in high‑pressure situations
- Flexibility to work out of hours when required
