Retail Assistant Manager – Cancer Research UK, Wallingford

• Pay: £13.25 – £15.46 per hour plus benefits
• Contract: 4‑month fixed term
• Hours: 30 hours per week, part‑time
• Location: Wallingford
• Reports to: Shop manager
• Department: Trading

Key Responsibilities

• Support the shop manager to guide, inspire and engage a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers.
• Assist with commercial operations including display and merchandising, stock management, maintaining shop standards, store layout, sales and income.
• Deliver excellent customer and supporter service.
• Work with the shop manager to achieve targets for donated stock, cash, gift aid, average selling price, sell‑through and stock processing.
• Build relationships with the local community and Cancer Research UK colleagues.
• Support the shop manager in organising and delivering creative fundraising events to meet targets.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration and HR policies.
• Deputise for the shop manager in their absence.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong customer‑service orientation.
• Experience working in a lively retail environment.
• Adaptability and the ability to work independently.
• Commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Supervisory experience or knowledge of retail and fashion preferred.
