Overview

Are you interested in rehabilitation and mechanical engineering and seeking a strong work‑life balance? The Wheelchair Service is recruiting a Wheelchair Rehabilitation Technician. The role offers in‑service training, one‑to‑one clinical development, and regular peer support within a supportive team. You will join a specialist team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Technicians and Rehabilitation Engineers, supported by an administration team. The service provides wheelchairs and specialist seating to adults and children with complex disabilities from our location at 3 Abell Gardens, Maidenhead. The role is Monday to Friday with no on‑call or weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on wheelchairs across the multi‑disciplinary team in clinic and in patients’ homes.
  • Set up, deliver, and hand over manual wheelchair equipment and accessories to clients as directed by Therapists and Engineers.
  • Carry out selective mechanical and software modifications to wheelchairs.
  • Manage stock in line with therapists, patients, and clinical requirements.
  • Provide support in moving and handling of patients and equipment.
  • Work with patients, relatives, and carers within a multi‑disciplinary team and in partnership with health, social care, education, charities, specialist providers and technicians.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience or keen interest in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player mindset.
  • Passion for supporting patients with complex needs and the ability to work within a dynamic and evolving service.
  • Willingness to collaborate with a range of professionals in health and social care settings.
