An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Healthcare Assistant to join the team in Queensway Day Unit. We are looking for someone who is motivated and has a passion for caring to join our small but dedicated team. The unit is a Day Treatment unit, providing a wide range of intravenous infusions, blood transfusions and treatments for adult patients in a calm, supportive and comfortable environment. We also the support the provision of various outpatient clinics. We are currently open Monday to Friday and hours are worked between 0800 and 1930. As a Senior Health Care Assistant you will work as part of a small team under the direct supervision of registered nurses to ensure the effective and safe provision of care to our patients during their stay. Individuals should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be reliable and proactive and show a willingness to learn and take on new challenges as the service continues to develop.
Main duties of the job
Experience of working in an acute care setting would be advantageous but all necessary skills training, professional updates and mandatory training as appropriate to the post will be provided. Qualifications
- A Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 3. This could be a Vocational NVQ, BTEC or equivalent international qualification in healthcare or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of experience
Experience
- Previous experience in an acute healthcare environment
- Proven competency and skills in cannulation and phlebotomy
- Experience of recording ECGs
- Experience of taking and monitoring blood glucose levels
- Competency or working towards achieving a competency in male and female catheterisation.
- Competency or working towards achieving a competency in basic wound care
Additional Criteria
- Able to prioritise and organise work and support junior staff
- Able to work under instruction and under own initiative within the boundaries of the role and as part of a team
- Able to work under pressure
