Overview

As a Peer Support Worker (Adult), you will draw upon your own lived experience to offer understanding, encouragement and practical assistance to Autistic adults. You will build genuine, trusting relationships that encourage individuals to regain confidence, develop independence and take positive steps toward their personal goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1‑to‑1 or group peer support to Autistic service users (Adults), working in partnership with them on their careplan and goals.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships, fostering hope, connection and belonging.
  • Promote understanding of the Autism Outreach Lived Experience role and apply its principles in daily interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider team and adults to develop community offers, ensuring services are co‑produced with CYP and their families.
  • Work flexibly and be prepared to undertake other duties commensurate with the role that may arise after consultation.
  • Keep accurate, high‑quality, up‑to‑date records using the appropriate computer system (e.g., SystmOne).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Own personal lived experience of Autism or neurodiversity and willingness to share that experience positively.
  • Excellent communication skills with autistic adults.
  • Resilient and adaptable, capable of achieving goals despite obstacles.
  • Strong time‑management and prioritisation skills to manage your own schedule and workload.
  • Commitment to working in an inclusive, team‑focused way.
  • Based in Mid Essex, with the expectation to work and travel across Southend, Essex and Thurrock.
