Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed-term post until 2 February 2028. The anaesthetics department seeks enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated people who can work with the general surgery team to provide a comprehensive service across the department. All medical staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with hospital health and safety policies, clinical governance and other risk management policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an anaesthetic service to Milton Keynes University Hospital as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • liaise effectively and in a timely manner with surgical, medical, and nursing colleagues and other health care agencies when appropriate to deliver evidence-based care for all inpatients.
  • Assist in the provision and development of a safe and effective service and support the Trust in its aim to provide the best possible care to patients.
  • Out-of-hours on-call responsibilities, including participation in the on-call rota. On-call frequency will be 1 in 8 weekdays. Commitments include cover for ICU, Theatres and Obstetrics depending on experience.
  • Carry out duties to the highest possible standard, in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
  • Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
  • Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities policy at all times.
  • Comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Requirements

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • At least 4 years postgraduate experience with 3 years in anaesthetics.

Teaching

  • Assist in the professional supervision and management of trainee medical staff.
  • Organise and participate in teaching, examination, and accreditation duties for undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Participate in the education and teaching of nursing and ODP staff.

Research and Audit

  • Be actively involved in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes, and continuing professional development.
  • Implement audit and research findings as appropriate.

Policy and Planning

  • Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational guidelines.
  • Review and develop policies for clinical practice and effectiveness.
  • Participate in the strategic planning for the service.
  • Comply with current Trust policies and procedures.

Management & Communication

  • Participate in all aspects of Service Line and Hospital affairs, including attendance at Consultant Meetings and representation on committees/working parties when required.
  • Develop and monitor performance indicators for the anaesthetic and critical care service and implement action as necessary.
  • Assist in the effective handling of patients’ complaints.

Record Keeping

  • All staff with access to or transfer of data must respect confidentiality and comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 in line with Trust policies.
  • The post-holder is responsible for data quality and complying with policies and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in line with Trust policy.
