An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department Professional Development Team as a Clinical Educator. We are an established team within the Emergency Department/MTC with a strong passion for education in clinical practice, delivering learning through a blended educational model.
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse who will play a pivotal role in the planning, development and delivery of inclusive education for both undergraduate and postgraduate non‑medical learners. Previous teaching/facilitation experience and demonstrable involvement in education programme development are essential.
Knowledge and experience within Emergency Medicine and Major Trauma are required for this role, along with a passion for upholding and championing the fundamentals of nursing care.

Main duties of the job
In this role, you will support learners across the Emergency Department including Major Trauma Centre and Urgent care. This will include direct‑entry students, apprentices, Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) and post‑registration Registered Nurses, enabling them to complete competencies and consolidate learning within clinical practice through supported supervision. You will be expected to respond proactively to the evolving educational needs of the department and wider division, working in partnership with CUH Academy to deliver high‑quality education aligned with key organisational priorities.
Developing educational content and implementing innovative teaching approaches are essential components of the role. You will promote flexible supervision models, ensuring learners receive appropriate support, supervision, teaching and assessment to deliver safe and effective patient care.

Person specification
Qualifications
- Current registration on part 1 or 2 of the register
- Evidence of continuing professional development and its application (e.g. ILS, PILS, ALS, APLS, EPLS, TNCC)
- Accredited course in a relevant acute specialty
- Recruitment training
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education or working towards
- Fellow of Higher Education Academy or working towards
- Professional Nurse Advocate
- Evidence of ability to study at Masters Level
Experience
- 2+ years’ experience in Emergency/Acute setting
- Experience in mentorship/preceptorship roles
- Experience in teaching/facilitation
- Post registration experience in a relevant acute speciality.
- Experience of using reflective practice
- Experience in giving formal feedback to others
- Previous Band 6 experience in nursing
- Experience of shift management and leadership.
- Experience of working with Paediatric patients in the emergency department setting
- Experience of conducting appraisals or providing other forms of constructive staff feedback
- Experience of project management/auditing
Knowledge
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the job priorities in respect of current NHS, NMC/HCPC and CQC standards.
- Sound theoretical and practical nursing knowledge within a relevant, acute clinical area.
