Renishaw is a global leader in the design and development of metrology systems. We are recruiting a mechanical design engineer to join the Encoder Products Division (EPD) at our HQ in Wotton-under-Edge.
You may be a recent graduate or an engineer with a few years’ experience wishing to develop your career. You will be involved in the engineering design of optical and electro‑mechanical products, including laser interferometer measurement systems capable of sub‑nanometre measurement accuracy. You’ll be given the chance to impart your knowledge and be part of a small team of engineers, interfacing with new product and manufacturing teams where necessary.
Our products and services are used in applications as diverse as the semiconductor, automotive and aerospace industries, as well as consumer electronics. We operate in an environment that promotes autonomy and creativity with people who can deliver quality within set timelines.
Responsibilities
- Evolving and maintaining product system designs which include precision optical, electronic and mechanical technology.
- Providing detailed verifiable design solutions, including mechanical drawings and supporting documentation.
- Designing and developing test rigs and processes to enable the manufacture of precision measurement equipment.
- Developing prototype testing and analysis of data to support the design.
- Investigating product performance issues, providing solutions to a timescale
- Working closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure best practice for manufacture and assembly.
Key Requirements
- Educated to at least degree level in Mechanical Engineering or similar related engineering degree.
- Familiarity with Siemens NX or a similar CAD package for 3D to 2D design.
- Possess problem solving and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplined team.
- Practical and theoretical approach to projects.
- A valid UK driving licence.
- A demonstrable interest or background in physics, particularly towards the design of optical systems and assemblies
- Experience in mechanical draughting in a similar technical/engineering environment, and exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD‑T).
- An interest in the semiconductor fabrication industry as a whole
We are ultimately looking to recruit a passionate engineer with an interest in developing a career as a mechanical design and development engineer. You’ll be immersed in engineering design and practical working activities relating to the development of optical and electro‑mechanical products. Skills will be tested, and your personal development will be encouraged.
