About The Role

As a Commis Chef, your primary role will be to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. You will work in different areas of the kitchen, such as vegetables, fish, meat and sauces, typically on a six‑month rotation programme.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support all chefs to manage and deliver all catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality and safety are maintained.
  • Participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents’ special needs or dietary requirements, including knowledge of cultural and religious preferences.
  • Prepare nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the Chefs, promptly and according to agreed mealtimes.
  • Prepare special diet meals as needed and directed by the Chefs.

Ideal Candidate

  • Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
  • Hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year catering experience.
  • Demonstrate compassion and commitment to delivering high‑quality culinary services to residents.
  • Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities on short notice.
