Role Description
The Fire Alarm Service Engineer is a full‑time, on‑site role based in York, responsible for the servicing and maintenance of fire alarm, emergency lighting and related life safety systems. Daily tasks include conducting routine inspections and functional tests, diagnosing faults, performing corrective repairs, and ensuring all systems comply with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications. The engineer will prepare service reports, maintain accurate records of work carried out, and communicate clearly with clients and internal teams regarding system status and recommended improvements. The role also involves collaborating with project managers and other engineers on system upgrades, supporting adherence to health and safety procedures, and occasionally participating in on‑call or scheduled out‑of‑hours work to meet operational requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong technical skills in fire alarm systems & emergency lighting, including servicing, and fault finding on conventional and addressable systems.
- Knowledge of relevant fire and life safety standards and regulations and ability to apply them in day‑to‑day work.
- Experience working with reading technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Competence in using test equipment and diagnostic tools to verify system performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Effective communication and customer service skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to clients and collaborate with internal teams.
- Strong problem‑solving ability, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to documenting work and maintaining service records.
- Understanding and application of health and safety practices, including working safely on‑site and complying with company and statutory procedures.
- Relevant vocational qualifications or certifications in electrical engineering, fire alarm systems, or a closely related field; manufacturer training and accreditation are an advantage.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites in the region as required.
