Development Team Leader / Software Development Manager (hands on) – Leading UK homegrown client

Brand new role – we are working on behalf of a Leading UK/East Midlands based client. They are looking for a Software Development manager to manage a Microsoft development team, both in-house developers (ASP.Net, C#, MVC) and an offshore team. You will manage a team of both developers and testers and should bring to the table a good understanding of systems integration testing and be an advocate of automation testing.

Technical environment: WEB Applications, ASP.Net, C#, MVC, SQL Server, HTML, JavaScript.

ROLE: As the Software Development Team Leader / Software Development Manager you will report into the Head of IT. It is a hands on role where we you can expect to have to cut code (ASP.Net/C#/MVC) for 10/20% of your time. The team is around 10 in numbers (both UK/European offices). We are looking for a real people -person, someone who enjoys man-management and knows how to get the best out of people. You will have ultimate responsibility for your team (appraisals, salary reviews, training etc.) as well the hiring of new recruits; this will be your responsibility from day one due to continued growth.

As the Development Team Lead / Manager we will expect you to have excellent communication skills as well as presentation, time management and reporting. We are looking for someone who can work in a dynamic environment. This is not a large blue chip, you will not be constricted by red tape, the IT Director has full backing from the board to transform the IT/Development team to enable them to produce cutting edge software product.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a mixed Microsoft development team, including in-house developers and an offshore team.
  • Lead the team of developers and testers, ensuring delivery of web application solutions.
  • Participate in coding (ASP.NET / C# / MVC) for 10–20% of your time.
  • Conduct appraisals, salary reviews, training and hiring of new recruits.
  • Advocate and implement systems integration testing and automation testing practices.
  • Communicate, present, manage time and report to the Head of IT.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Microsoft .NET stack: ASP.NET, C#, MVC.
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC, SQL Server, HTML and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development processes.
  • Proven people‑management skills: team leadership, recruitment, performance management.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with systems integration and automation testing is desirable.
