Introduction to REMAP

REMAP is a national charity which helps around 3500 disabled people every year to achieve greater independence and a better quality of life.

Established in 1964, REMAP is the UK’s only charity providing innovative, custom made and personalised equipment for disabled people.

Disability aids are not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution, we step in where the market stops. To meet the unique needs of disabled individuals, our dedicated volunteer engineers design and create equipment when no commercial alternative exists – at no cost to the individuals we help.

About REMAP Branches

We have a community of over 65 REMAP branches across the UK all led by volunteers. Each volunteer dedicates their time and skills to supporting disabled people in their local area.

Each REMAP local branch is a community of volunteers led by a branch Chair supported by volunteers in various roles such as vice chairs, fundraisers, publicists, secretaries, treasurers, etc. Tasks and roles are flexible.

Location, time and support:

The Treasurer Volunteer role is based in your local area. There are no set shifts. It is a mixture of remote and face to face monthly‑six weekly meetings. Tasks and time commitments are flexible. You will receive a local Branch induction, and ongoing support. You will have the opportunity to discuss any adjustments or additional needs.

Essential Criteria:

Our Volunteer Branch Treasurers manage the bank account for the local branch. To be accepted by the bank as a signatory you need an acceptable credit rating and be a UK resident.

What Skills & Qualities will you bring:

  • Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email
  • Experience in bookkeeping, budgeting, and planning income and expenditure
  • Able to apply disability, equality, and inclusion practices
  • Able to keep people’s personal data safe
  • Commitment to REMAP’s values of client first, quality service and valuing our people
  • Comfortable volunteer with other people
  • Good organisational skills.

What will you do:

  • Act as a branch bank signatory
  • Maintain accurate income and expenditure records to document
  • Report on branch finances
  • Offer objectivity around the spending of money
  • Ensure branch money is spent in a cost‑effective manner
  • Approve income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories
  • Ensure that branch financial requirements and policies relating to group finances are followed
  • Handle personal information responsibly and securely
  • Take part in regular local branch meetings which might be online or face to face.
  • Be willing to complete induction undertake references and any other checks if necessary
  • Follow all REMAP policies and procedures
  • Draw on practical or engineering experience where helpful, though this is not essential.
