On behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), we are looking for a BMS Controls Engineer for a contract ending in March 2027. The position is Inside IR35 with 3 days a week onsite at the nearest DWP location (Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham, Blackpool, Cardiff) and the remainder from home.

The role focuses on driving the DWP Estates’ Building Management Systems initiatives through the following responsibilities:

  • Act as the DWP Estates subject‑matter expert on Building Management Systems, ensuring a complete, relevant, operational, and compliant BMS portfolio, including plans, registers, drawings, surveys, and risk matrices.
  • Lead collaborative work with internal and external DWP specialists and/or BMS consultants in developing and implementing a performance management system for the assurance and development of maintenance activities and strategies related to BMS systems.
  • Ensure the estate’s premises portfolio is fully compliant with all applicable legislation and develop strategies, policies, and procedures surrounding this compliance.
  • Periodically review survey documentation produced by specialist consultants and appointed contractors, ensuring that all surveys and action plans are documented, tracked, and rectification works are closed out.
  • Lead the capture and interpretation of accurate asset and maintenance data for BMS, ensuring correct maintenance, works, and investment are in place and sites remain safe and maintained throughout their life cycle.

Eligibility: This role can only be performed within the United Kingdom.

Essential Qualifications

  • Background in BMS; electrical engineer or electrician preferred.
  • Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) / technical certification in BMS/Controls systems at Level 3 or above.
  • Knowledge of IQ Vision or a similar system (e.g., Honeywell).

Desirable Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent).
  • HNC in BMS Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
