Principal Engineer
I’m currently working with a global financial markets organisation that’s looking to hire a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys setting engineering standards, mentoring developers, influencing technical direction, and still getting stuck into coding. You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performance software while working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the technical direction across development teams.
- Designing and building complex, enterprise-scale applications.
- Driving architecture decisions and engineering best practices.
- Mentoring engineers and supporting technical growth within the team.
- Championing code quality, automation, and modern development practices.
- Working closely with stakeholders to deliver innovative technical solutions.
- Supporting continuous improvement across SDLC, Agile delivery, and DevOps practices.
What they’re looking for:
- Strong Java development experience.
- Experience with Spring, PostgreSQL and Redis.
- Proven experience building microservices within AWS.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps and Agile delivery.
- Previous experience in a technical leadership or Principal Engineer position.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions.
Desirable experience:
- Docker and Kubernetes.
- React/TypeScript.
- Python for tooling and automation.
- Experience incorporating AI tools into engineering workflows.
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design, event-driven architecture, GraphQL or observability tooling.
- Previous experience within regulated financial services or capital markets (MiFID II experience is beneficial but not essential).
