Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is viewed as a “major tool for building knowledge societies” and, particularly, as a mechanism at the school education level that could provide a way to rethink and redesign the educational systems and processes, thus leading to quality education for all.

As a Network Manager, you’ll be responsible for installing and maintaining our customer’s computer networks, and also to train staff to provide first rate technical support. If there are problems with the system, it’ll be down to you to have a recovery plan to minimize any disruption to the school.

You may have more than one type of network to manage. As well as existing systems, you may also need to help develop new systems to assist with the continued growth of the school. You’ll work as part of an IT team with project managers, network engineers and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be technically responsible for the support delivered to the colleges and schools in the Trust and where necessary advice the head of Service Delivery of any required improvements.
  • To lead, manage, coach and mentor the team to ensure high levels of performance and to develop ‘new talent’ within the Company for the future.
  • Management of the teams’ workload on a daily basis by sub-dividing and prioritizing work to ensure optimum use of resources.
  • To set and agree objectives to ensure achievement of results in conjunction with the Head of Service Delivery.
  • To support the setup of all new ICT services being delivered through the team to ensure operational ‘readiness’, including service transition, resource requirements, training, etc.
  • To ensure high levels of on-going support for the systems environment.
  • To ensure all systems are established and operated to the required performance standards.
  • To routinely monitor in conjunction with the Head of Service Delivery the service performance levels.
  • To initiate and personally lead ‘corrective action’ programmes designed to enhance systems performance and drive down the cost of delivery.
  • To act as a ‘catalyst’ within the Trust for systems to meet curriculum, staff and pupil driven demands.
  • To ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction for all services delivered.
  • To ensure that network security policies and software are up to date and relevant.
  • To oversee all the technical aspects of the school’s ICT resources for admin and curriculum areas.
  • Overall responsibility for implementation and support of network systems; to include research, development, installation and support of network servers, workstations, peripherals and other essential network systems.
  • Day-to-day management of the administration systems, finance systems and database applications.
  • Ensure that accurate procedures for backup, archive, recovery and general system maintenance are in place.
  • To be responsible for ICT resource management, Internet Acceptable Use and monitoring.
  • To manage the schools networking topology, connections and components.
  • Management of the Windows domain and server infrastructure. Liaison with external consultants/suppliers, where necessary, on overall network topology, design and implementation.
  • Configuration of items of equipment, including Server, Laptops and Workstations.
  • Management of the Trust’s asset register.
  • When required, to assist the team with first and second line technical advisory, diagnostic and repair support services to ICT users.
  • To ensure full compliance with internal service desk policies.
  • To provide an effective communications interface between the Trust and the various groups within the Company.
  • To complete ad-hoc duties and tasks allocated by line management from time to time.
  • To complete additional ad-hoc project work, as required.
  • Adhere to the company’s policies and procedures including quality, environmental and information security.

Requirements

  • Experience of working with Microsoft server technologies in a system administration capacity including Office 365, Exchange, Active Directory, Group Policies, etc. Knowledge of Antivirus, HP Servers, Backup and Storage (VEEAM), HP, Cisco & HP, Switches & Firewalls, Wireless & AP’s, VLANS, Microsoft ISA Sever, SQL, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Hyper-V and VMware.
  • Good demonstrable knowledge of Windows 7, Sever 2008 r2 and Server 2012 and client applications like Office 2013.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN’s.
  • Good working knowledge of MAC Operating Systems, desktops, laptops and tablets.
  • CompTia A+ Certified is a distinct advantage.
  • CompTia N+ or S+ is a distinct advantage.
  • MCSE/MCSA /CCNA are a distinct advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an education based ICT support environment.
  • Degree or other Higher Education Qualification.
  • Hardware Break/Fix Experience — HP accredited to ASP level (Proliant Servers and/or HP Commercial Desktops, Workstations & Notebooks) is a distinct advantage.
  • Qualifications such as MCSE, MCSA or MCITP, ITIL and VMWare would be highly beneficial towards your application

  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical school users.
  • Ability to communicate across ‘a wide range of ages, experience and abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to share knowledge across the team and with customers to aid learning and proficiency.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in software and hardware.
