As part of their long‑term growth strategy, they are seeking a Head of Design to lead their design function and play a key role in the future direction of the business.

The Opportunity

As Head of Design, you will take ownership of the drawing and CAD department, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality technical drawings, 3D models, and engineering documentation. You’ll work closely with senior leadership, technical specialists, operational teams, and manufacturing partners to deliver practical, compliant, and commercially effective design solutions.

You’ll be joining a business known for delivering technically challenging projects in a dynamic environment where innovation, collaboration, and professional development are genuinely valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Design and CAD team
  • Oversee the production of accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings and models
  • Review engineering calculations, technical documentation, and design outputs
  • Drive quality, consistency, and continuous improvement across design processes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practice
  • Collaborate with operations, project delivery teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders
  • Support product development and engineering innovation initiatives
  • Manage design approvals and ensure all technical documentation is completed before project delivery
  • Contribute to procurement activities and supplier technical evaluations
  • Provide technical guidance throughout project lifecycles

About You

We’re interested in speaking with candidates who bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and commercial awareness.

  • Degree‑qualified in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Technology, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis and steel design principles
  • Experience working with steel fabrication and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings and engineering documentation
  • Proven experience leading, managing, or mentoring design/CAD teams
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership
  • Experience within temporary structures, events, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, exhibition, or related sectors
  • Knowledge of BS, EN, and Eurocode standards
  • Experience working with international suppliers and manufacturing partners
