The Role
To design and implement software solutions for underwater robotics applications in line with the company’s business needs through innovation, creativity and professionalism. The role requires demonstrated expertise in software used on industrial/vehicle/vessel systems. Reporting to the Software Manager, the Software Lead is responsible for project delivery and for leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically complex software projects for subsea vehicles and related robotic functions. The Software Lead coordinates inputs from multiple software and engineering disciplines and supporting functions to deliver the software content for Saab products.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of projects and supervise multidisciplinary software teams.
- Design and implement software for subsea vehicles and robotic functions.
- Coordinate inputs from software and engineering disciplines to deliver complete software content.
- Engage with customers and act as a technical authority to communicate complex concepts.
- Develop software architecture for complex systems from scratch and derive lower level requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Senior Engineer.
- Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
- Broad understanding of software from embedded to applications.
- Experience leading multi‑disciplined software engineering teams.
- Ability to develop system‑level requirements and derive lower‑level requirements.
- Strong understanding of safety concepts and design; ability to interface with customers and act as a technical authority.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non‑technical stakeholders; ability to estimate work content and duration.
- Ability to plan workload for teams and ensure resources are not overloaded.
- Experience developing and instigating processes to ensure industry best practice and software quality.
- Mentoring ability to develop junior engineers; delegation and resource/budget management.
- Practical understanding of standards and application of standards; awareness of cybersecurity impacts on design.

Desirable
- Exposure to IP video and video routing; design and testing of control software.
- Familiarity with systems serving Real Time Information via Web Sockets; DDS interfacing.
- Message Queues (ActiveMQ/RabbitMQ/ZeroMQ); GUI development experience (.NET GUI, Qt 6.2).
- Experience developing and debugging application software in Visual Studio (2013, 2017, 2022).
- Experience with customer facing APIs using web technologies.
