Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Maintain full registration with the GMC
- CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and entry on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post
- Be within six months of achieving a CCT at the time of interview or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register; CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at interview
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MS)
Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCT
- Experience in advanced and benign gynaecology (ATSM / SITM) complementary training
- Colposcopy training
Desirable criteria
- Advanced laparoscopic, hysteroscopy and gynaecological scanning
- Evidence of MDT working in obstetrics and gynaecology
Other Requirements
- Must reside within 30 minutes or ten miles of the principal place of work
Clinical Knowledge, Skills & Audit
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent CME and reasonable training progression at this stage of career
- Experience in audit projects with written outcome
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
- Knowledge of the political context within which we operate
Desirable criteria
- Completion of a general management course or programme
- Involvement in clinical directorate management
- Successful completion of quality improvement projects
Research
Essential criteria
- Proven teaching ability
- Willingness to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates & postgraduates
Desirable criteria
- Proven track record in research
- Willingness to undertake further research
- Ability to gain trust and confidence of colleagues and patients
- Ability to teach effectively
- Evidence of relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals
Teaching and Training
- Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team
- Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff
Interpersonal, Communication and Team Working Skills
Essential criteria
- Empathetic and sensitive to the needs of others including patients and colleagues
- Ability to explain complex and sensitive information, sometimes under stressful circumstances, to others
- Ability to influence and persuade effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to write and present management reports as required
Desirable criteria
- Ability to gain trust and confidence of colleagues and patients
Responsibilities
- Clinical management of patients under care, ensuring continuity of care in liaison with consultant colleagues when absent
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
- Participation in a Clinical Audit Programme
