Responsibilities

  • Assess online applications from Manchester City Council residents and those being resettled into Manchester using policy and assessment criteria.
  • Provide cash grants, fuel vouchers and furniture assistance as authorised.
  • Ring customers to discuss their applications and ensure individual needs are met.
  • Ask appropriate questions, explain information required, manage difficult conversations calmly, and ensure customers understand the outcome and next steps.

Qualifications

  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills and ability to learn and apply guidance and procedures.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, for example customer service within a financial setting, is desirable.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, engaging with customers in a sensitive, professional, and non‑judgemental way.
  • Experience of assessing financial information (e.g., income, expenditure, savings, capital and other financial resources) and using that information to make accurate, evidence‑based decisions.

Relevant Clearances

  • BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance required.
  • DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance required.
