Overview

We are looking for experienced System Engineers with a background in simulation to support our Cyber, Analysis and Mission Solutions discipline. The role involves leading programmes in Simulation and Synthetic Environment System Development within the Defence Sector.

The Role

The Simulation Systems Engineer supports customers in the development of modelling, simulation and synthetic environments, future technology applications, and delivers solutions through research, concept development and prototyping tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and presenting analytical approaches and research evidence to scrutiny and assurance bodies.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams in delivering projects.
  • Conducting research options analysis using approaches such as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA).
  • Facilitating workshops and eliciting data and information from stakeholders.
  • Presenting research outcomes to decision makers.
  • Writing technical reports (e.g., white papers, research papers, project reports, business cases).

Research Consultant Responsibilities

  • Consistent approach to exploring a problem space.
  • Constant application of research process.
  • Consistency in research approach and delivery.
  • Confidence in presenting research outputs.
  • Retention of corporate research and development know‑how.

Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrable experience using a range of research and development methods, tools, and techniques including literature studies, workshop facilitation, and low TRL engineering prototype development.
  • Experience in systems engineering and understanding of enterprise architecture.
  • Experience managing tasks or leading small teams to deliver complex projects.
  • Strong record of project and/or technical delivery, contributing to coherent and successful teams.
  • Ability to interpret client requirements, ideally within the Defence Sector (including DE&S, Front Line Commands, and Research Communities).
  • Awareness and appreciation of MOD operating doctrine.
  • Knowledge of how technology is explored, adapted and developed to model equipment, environments, and operational scenarios in Defence.
