PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £44,000 – £51,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We are looking for a senior journalist to lead the BBC Naidheachdan sports team. You will provide editorial leadership and manage a small team. You will be responsible for sports content across all our platforms. This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone who wants to be creative and innovative in their daily work.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Responsible for originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of BBC output.
  • May be required to undertake on‑air reporting, may be required to film and edit material for broadcast where appropriate.
  • As required, to allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output. Able to lead the team on a day‑to‑day basis but also contribute ideas and support to the overall management of the site, its team, finances and agenda.
  • Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
  • Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • A deep knowledge of and passion for all sport – at a local, national and international level.
  • Fluent Gaelic speaker with excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent editorial judgement, writing and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalist experience.
  • Ability to handle significant responsibility, line‑managing and leading a small team of journalists.
  • Confidence in prioritising and planning all sport output taking into account deadlines, existing staffing and resources.
  • Committed to facilitating change independently and exemplifying best practice between teams.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders to create opportunities and impact.
  • Experience of mentoring junior journalists and supporting staff development.
  • Experience of live broadcasting production.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
