Job Summary

Provide high-quality domestic service throughout designated area/service, maintaining a clean and safe environment that assists in ensuring a positive user experience and reflects the organisation’s values. Responsible for providing high standards of cleanliness under the supervision of the domestic supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high standards of cleanliness to the designated area/service.
  • Use mechanical and electrical cleaning equipment safely following appropriate training.
  • Collect and safely remove paper waste within the area.
  • Perform pantry/kitchen duties, including clearing the dining area and washing up as required.
  • Carry out specialist cleaning (barrier/isolation) as required.
  • Store and maintain stock and supplies, ensuring availability within the area.
  • Follow infection control procedures and complete relevant training.
  • Engage in SSL/Trust appraisal process to identify personal development and training needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with data protection act, trust policy and good practice.
  • Conduct oneself professionally towards colleagues and other agencies.
  • Assist in the introduction of new staff under guidance of the Domestic Supervisor.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all departmental, trust and statutory policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the service/organisation’s aims and objectives.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required by the Domestic Supervisor, e.g. changing cubicle/window curtain blinds.
  • Adhere to national and local safeguarding policies for children, vulnerable adults and infection control.
  • Test the staff attack alarm on the ward area each day to ensure it is working correctly.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • BICSc Certificate NVQ 1 & 2 Support Services Level 2 Food Hygiene.
  • Previous experience of cleaning duties and standards.
  • Experience using cleaning equipment.
  • Previous experience working in Mental Health/NHS.
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to communicate with a range of people including patients and staff.
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork as instructed to Trust requirements and standards.
  • Ability to follow work schedules with minimal day-to-day supervision after initial training.
  • Ability to carry out duties without direct supervision after initial training.
  • Ability to complete store requests and submit to supervisor.
  • Ability to use a variety of cleaning machines.
  • Ability to move light furniture as part of cleaning duties.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling tasks on a regular basis.
  • Ability to identify most pressing tasks within scope of normal work schedule.
  • Ability to maintain highest levels of cleaning standards at all times.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to reflect on own performance and identify training needs with supervisor.

Working Conditions

Work in all areas, including corridors, entrances, toilets, clinic rooms, and admin areas. Work alone or as part of a team, flexible hours including bank holidays, and move across sites.
