Overview

Are you calm under pressure, highly motivated, and able to multitask effectively? North West Ambulance Service is recruiting Dispatchers to join our Integrated Contact Centres (ICC) in Broughton & Speke. Working alongside 999 Call Handlers, you will be responsible for dispatching emergency resources and communicating via radio with paramedics and other emergency responders.

Our Integrated Contact Centres operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, receiving emergency calls and coordinating ambulance responses across the region. Applicants must be flexible and able to commit to a rota pattern that includes day shifts, night shifts, weekends, bank holidays, and religious festivals.

Assessment Centre

Assessment Centre held in Speke on Saturday 25 July 2026.

Candidates will complete the following assessments:

  • Typing test
  • Memory and recall exercises
  • Attentional focus assessment
  • Multi‑tasking assessment

Successful candidates will be invited to a formal interview on the same day.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch emergency resources and coordinate ambulance responses.
  • Communicate via radio with paramedics, fire, police and other emergency responders.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow established protocols.
  • Make quick, accurate decisions under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Excellent keyboard and computer skills, evidence of effective input and data access.
  • Developed communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Proven ability to multi‑task, prioritise, and solve problems.
  • Strong planning and organisation skills.
  • Dynamic decision‑making under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and follow protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality and works effectively as a team member.
  • Strong work ethic, self‑discipline, and motivation to improve patient care.
  • Understanding of managing a safe working environment.
  • Education to GCSE standard or equivalent vocational qualifications.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work unsocial hours/shift pattern and a good attendance record.
  • Present a professional image.

Training

Successful applicants must commit to a three‑week training programme. A comprehensive training package will be provided and no previous medical experience is required.

Benefits

Annual leave will not be permitted during the initial training period.
