Join Gateshead Council’s Neighbourhood, Housing and Homelessness Service and play a vital role in supporting residents across our communities. As a key point of contact, you’ll deliver responsive, customer-focused service helping people access housing support, navigate council services, and find solutions that improve their circumstances.

As an apprentice, you will work towards gaining your Level 2 Housing and Property Management Assistant Apprenticeship qualification.

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers, responding to enquiries across a range of housing and council services in line with service standards.
  • Process and reconcile income accurately, ensuring compliance with the Council’s financial guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and manual records, ensuring all information is handled in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Provide advice and support on housing options, assisting customers seeking rehousing.
  • Conduct customer interviews and support home visits where required to assess needs and provide appropriate services.
  • Promote digital inclusion, encouraging customers to access and use online services.
  • Carry out visits to properties and estates to support service delivery.
  • Achieve performance targets and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and value for money.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring all customers are treated fairly and respectfully.
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment, adhering to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate behaviours aligned with Council values, supporting effective cross-service working to deliver excellent customer outcomes.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive and professional approach with customers, colleagues and partners at all times.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English, or relevant experience in a customer service environment, dealing with members of the public in person and over the phone, interviewing and communicating effectively.
  • Experience of communicating effectively with a range of customers and stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Good organisational skills and you should be committed to delivering customer service to a high standard.
