Teaching Assistant: The Gatwick School

Role Overview

The Gatwick School is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Teaching Assistant on a fixed‑term basis to support teachers and enhance the learning, wellbeing and personal development of all pupils.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and supporting pupil learning.
• Help organise and maintain the learning environment.
• Implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
• Deliver individual or small group support to meet pupils’ needs.
• Make systematic observations of pupils’ knowledge and progress and report findings.
• Promote a positive and inclusive classroom culture.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English, grade 4–9 (A–C) or equivalent (essential).
• NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants, in Childcare or Playwork, or equivalent (desirable).
• Good oral and written communication skills (essential).
• Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice (essential).
• Understanding of health, safety and security requirements (essential).

Experience

• Experience of establishing positive relationships with children and young people.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Experience of using IT to support pupils in the classroom.
• Experience of working successfully as part of a team.
