Overview

A Health Care Support Worker will join the Community Respiratory Service within Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust to deliver person–centred care and support respiratory and TB screening services in community settings across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. The role includes undertaking venepuncture and IGRA blood testing and supporting vulnerable populations including asylum seekers and migrants.

Key Duties

  • Deliver and support respiratory and TB screening clinics.
  • Undertake venepuncture and IGRA blood testing as a core component of the role.
  • Support tuberculosis screening programmes, including work with asylum seekers and migrant populations.
  • Assist with respiratory assessments and diagnostic pathways.
  • Support pulmonary rehabilitation and patient self-management programmes.
  • Monitor patients, recognise deterioration and escalade concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate electronic clinical records and support clinic administration.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NVQ Level3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent experience).
  • Care Certificate (or willingness to complete).
  • Evidence of venepuncture competency (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Extensive phlebotomy experience, competent in venepuncture and IGRA testing.
  • Experience working in a patient‑facing healthcare environment.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in TB screening (IGRA) in community settings.
  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to reassure anxious patients.
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Basic IT and record‑keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently within defined protocols and clinical procedures.

Additional Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes (regular travel between clinics required).
  • IT literate, able to use clinical systems.
