Job Description:

Overview

We are looking for a Data & Intelligence Discovery Lead to lead a six‑month secondment. The role involves mapping the current data and intelligence landscape across Taylor & Francis (T&F), auditing existing capability, identifying gaps and delivering a baseline report that will guide the permanent Head of Data & Intelligence.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Audit and map all data assets: source, format, quality, accessibility and usage for product or commercial decisions.
  • Identify every instance of AI, machine learning or algorithmic decision‑making, including informal or team‑built tools.
  • Assess our AEO/GEO and SEO positioning to inform UC growth.

Success Looks Like

At the end of six months you will have produced a complete and honest inventory of T&F’s data assets, gaps and a set of strategic recommendations. The permanent Head of Data & Intelligence should be able to read the baseline report and understand what T&F has, what it needs and where to start, enabling a rapid transition from the permanent role.

The Six Months

  1. Month 1‑2: Discovery & Mapping – Structured audit of all value‑driven existing data assets, traffic analysis, models in use and intelligence capabilities; map what exists, where it lives and who owns it.
  2. Month 2‑3: Assessment & Gap Analysis – Evaluate maturity, quality and commercial relevance; identify gaps between current capability and UC/Marketplace ambition.
  3. Month 3‑4: Stakeholder Intelligence – Conduct structured conversations across Product, Engineering, Commercial and Data teams to surface usage, frustrations and organisational needs.
  4. Month 4‑5: Synthesis & Recommendations – Develop the baseline report and draft strategic recommendations for the permanent Head of D&I.
  5. Month 5‑6: Handover & Foundation – Present findings to VP Product and P&T leadership; create foundational documentation, frameworks and relationships for the permanent Head of D&I to launch quickly.

Location

Balanced working model – live within commuting distance of Milton Park, Oxfordshire or London, Blackfriars. Must be able to attend office 3 days per week.

You Are

  • Analytically strong, comfortable working with data and forming well‑reasoned conclusions from incomplete information.
  • Investigative by nature, asking beyond the obvious questions.
  • A strong interviewer and listener, able to surface candid stakeholder views.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to create structure and deliver clear outputs from a messy start.
  • Credible across functions, engaging effectively with engineering, product, and commercial teams.
  • Clear and direct communicator; written and verbal outputs accessible to non‑specialists yet accurate.
  • Familiar with data and AI/ML capabilities in a product context, assessing what they can and cannot do.
  • Aware of T&F’s ambition, understanding how the marketplace drives commercial performance and data’s role at scale.

Qualifications

  • Right to work and live in the UK.
  • Experience in data audit, intelligence, or related fields; experience designing data baselines is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary + bonus.
  • 25 days annual leave plus additional discretionary days.
  • Paid birthday leave, volunteering days, private medical insurance, and employee assistance programme.
  • Share Match, pension scheme, life assurance, optical and medical care.
