The ALBORADA Drug Discovery Institute (ADDI), part of the University of Cambridge Department of Clinical Neuroscience, is seeking a Research Associate with a strong background in assay development and screening to join its established team. ADDI is part of a network of world‑class Drug Discovery Institutes funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK and is focused on validating new drug targets and identifying potential new drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate automated, plate‑based screening assays.
- Develop and execute biochemical and cell‑based assays to screen for hits, determine structure‑activity relationships, and support elucidation of mechanisms of action of active compounds.
- Collaborate closely with cell‑molecular biology, in‑vivo, and chemistry teams to progress projects from target validation through to in‑vivo proof‑of‑concept models.
- Analyse data, troubleshoot protocols, and implement improvements to assay performance and study design.
- Maintain accurate records and manage time effectively to support a collaborative research environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in assay development and mechanistic validation of biological targets.
- Experience in developing and executing automated, plate‑based screening assays.
- Strong troubleshooting, data‑analysis, and record‑keeping skills.
- Applicant must have or be close to obtaining a PhD; those awaiting their award will be initially appointed as Research Assistant (Grade 5) and promoted to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon PhD confirmation.
- Successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Fixed‑term: Funding for this post is available until 30 April 2029, in the first instance.
