The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs, inspections and fault‑finding activities on a variety of combat systems and equipment. Your work will help ensure critical assets remain safe, reliable and available when needed.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and nuclear‑implicated work in line with operational requirements.
- Identify, diagnose and rectify equipment defects, system faults and mechanical issues.
- Maintain high technical and quality standards to support the availability and performance of combat systems.
- Follow safe systems of work, health and safety legislation and control of work processes.
- Contribute ideas to improve processes, productivity and engineering performance.
This is a 36‑hour working week based onsite at HMNB Clyde. Set working times are Monday to Thursday, 07:15 – 16:45.
Essential experience
- Experience within a marine, industrial engineering or mechanical maintenance environment.
- Ability to work at height, in confined spaces and in varying weather conditions.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical information.
- Strong fault‑finding, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work, alongside excellent teamwork skills.
Qualifications
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent NVQ/City & Guilds qualification), or
- HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline supported by relevant industry experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
