Legal Cashier / Finance Assistant

A well-established Belfast law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Cashier or Accounts Assistant to join its finance function.
This is a varied position covering banking, transactional finance, billing and general accounts administration. It would suit someone who is comfortable working with financial information, managing several priorities and maintaining a consistently high level of accuracy.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing client and business bank accounts and identifying incoming funds
- Recording and allocating receipts accurately
- Preparing and processing payments from client and office accounts
- Assisting with the preparation and issue of invoices
- Recording supplier invoices on the firms finance system
- Checking and processing employee expense claims
- Dealing with account-related enquiries from colleagues and external suppliers
- Preparing routine financial reports, documents and correspondence
- Investigating discrepancies and escalating more complex issues when required
- Assisting the wider finance team during busy reporting periods
- Ensuring financial records remain complete, accurate and up to date
- Building effective working relationships across the firm
The Person
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Previous experience in an accounts, finance or cashiering position
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Confidence using accounting systems and online banking platforms
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- The ability to organise a busy workload and work to strict deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence dealing with colleagues at different levels of seniority
- A professional and discreet approach when handling confidential information
Experience gained within a law firm or another professional-services business would be particularly beneficial.
An Accounting Technician qualification, or progress towards a relevant accountancy qualification, would be welcomed. Previous exposure to legal accounting software, VAT processes or the Solicitors Accounts Regulations would also be advantageous.
