Role Overview
The Teaching Assistant will support Level4 (first‑year undergraduate) Physics courses at Northeastern University London. The position is part‑time up to 0.88FTE, fixed‑term from 01September2026 to31May2027, with salary ranging from £37,960 to £41,461 per annum for the current FTE, progressing to £42,701 for 1.0FTE once in post.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead laboratory sessions in Classical Mechanics and Electromagnetism, covering topics such as mechanics, motion, energy, electrical circuits, oscillations and waves.
- Support students during lab and recitation sessions.
- Assist with equipment set‑up and tear‑down during lab sessions.
- Complete required training and attend coordination meetings.
- Respond to or forward student queries as appropriate.
Person Specification
- Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in a relevant area.
- PhD completed or near completion, or equivalent professional experience (desirable).
- AFHEA status or equivalent (desirable).
- Core knowledge of Classical Mechanics and Electromagnetism.
- Evidence of adaptability, innovation, and inclusivity in teaching lab sessions.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, presentation skills (face‑to‑face and online).
- Excellent IT skills and experience supporting technology integration into learning.
- Strong time‑management and organisational skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must have eligibility to work in the UK under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act2006. A basic or enhanced DBS check will be required. The role may be appointed on a reduced fraction/job‑share basis subject to business needs.
