Job summary

Job responsibilities
- Provide clinical and professional leadership, quality and risk management and lead the strategic development of the service
- Ensure maintenance of a research and development framework and that pharmacy services are progressive, responsive to demand, patient‑focused, safe, efficient, effective and well‑led
- Serve as the expert voice on pharmacy matters to the Executive Board; oversee governance of medicines and develop, implement and maintain a medicines optimisation strategy

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Essential: 1. Degree in pharmacy; 2. Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC); 3. Postgraduate qualification in Management or Leadership to Master’s level or equivalent
- Desirable: College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP) member
Experience
- Essential: 1. Experience interpreting national policy and local implications, including identifying and addressing health inequalities
- Extensive experience in strategic planning, organisational skills
- Experience of policy development and implementation
- Experience of effective leadership of a service, including staff management and associated HR processes
Knowledge
- Essential: Extensive knowledge of medicines optimisation and medicines management, including budget setting
- Knowledge of mental health and community health prescribing issues in primary and secondary care
- Knowledge of controlled drugs and medicines legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management/leadership
- Desirable: Experience of pharmacy and EPMA systems, Knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship
Skills
- Essential: Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
- Ability to motivate oneself and others to encourage collaborative working to improve performance
