Apprentice IT Technician

We are looking to recruit an Apprentice IT Technician to join our team at TKAT on a fixed‑term basis. Working closely with the regional IT manager, you will support our schools within the Essex Region, based primarily at Debden Park High School with occasional travel to other schools. A full UK driving licence and access to a car is required.

The role involves supporting the maintenance and administration of schools’ computer networks, troubleshooting user issues, and contributing to network infrastructure and hardware projects. This apprenticeship is at the Information Communications Technician Level 3 and runs for 17‑19 months, including the EPA.

Please consider the Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria in the attachments when applying. Apprentices will not be eligible if they already hold an IT degree (Level 3) or have 6 months+ IT work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring the service desk for IT issues, reviewing tickets and tracking progress.
  • Follow policies for compliance with organisational obligations (including legislation, regulatory, contractual and agreed standards).
  • Provide feedback to the IT Manager and wider team on IT strategy.
  • Escalate potential data/cyber‑security breaches to the Head of IT.
  • Work closely with the central IT team on the development and support of the Trust’s Google environment and other IT systems.
  • Support project management of changes at sites and liaise with external contractors.
  • Identify patterns in service requests and recommend training or system changes.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering networks, reviewing system logs, performing backup/AV checks and general updates.
  • High professional and personal standards in both work and conduct.
  • Strong judgment and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong personal drive and willingness to get things done.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to work as a team member and independently.
  • Ability to convey technical problems to non‑technical staff.

Employment Details

Fixed‑term contract. Salary: £15,434.32 per annum. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4 pm. Location: Debden Park High School, Essex – travel to other sites as required.
