Overview
Manufacturing Engineering Manager – OE & DEV based in Bristol. This management level C role leads the Manufacturing Engineering team for Original Equipment (OE) and Development (DEV) activities, ensuring all manufacturing engineering activities across the product lifecycle are delivered to world‑class quality, cost and performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the OE & DEV Manufacturing Engineering team and ensure compliance with HSE, Zero Harm and product safety standards.
- Promote a culture of zero defects, right‑first‑time manufacturing and continuous improvement through tools such as RRPS, DMAIC and systems engineering.
- Specify manufacturing engineering and process requirements and make technical decisions; chair control authority governing change.
- Identify, synthesise and locally govern requirements for improvements and innovations; prioritise and launch new projects based on business case.
- Lead the technical input into facility or supply‑chain strategy, integrating manufacturing technology, digital manufacturing and product introduction.
- Deploy mechanisms to govern achievement of deliverables, report status, resolve risks and manage capacity plans and budgets.
- Nominate PI component lead for all PI parts and ensure production readiness of new capabilities or methods.
- Develop and maintain real‑time methods for capturing process capability and ensure availability within the facility, supply chain and new product design.
- Maintain and govern production technical packages for all parts and assemblies, ensuring capability to meet quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time targets.
- Coordinate technical support to operations and suppliers, resolving problems in a structured and timely manner.
- Drive manufacturing processes toward consistent best practice and collaborate across business functions for knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Provide professional leadership, coaching and enablement of the manufacturing engineering community.
- Develop external relationships within the supply chain to maximise requirements and deliver successful outcomes.
Qualifications
- Professionally qualified engineer (UK BEng degree or equivalent). UK CEng or equivalent is preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the business.
- General awareness of manufacturing systems (CAD, CAM, CAPP, MES, MINT, SAP, Technical Publications, etc.).
- Proven experience leading significant manufacturing engineering projects across a range of processes.
- Experience of manufacturing change across facility redesign, move, technology insertion, new product introduction, process revalidation and quality improvement.
- Demonstrated technical and professional leadership of a team of engineers.
