Job Description:

We are looking to recruit an experienced Driver Trainer who will be based at our distribution centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

This is a permanent full‑time position where you will play a key role in developing, supporting and maintaining high driving standards across our Class 1 driver workforce. You will be responsible for delivering practical and classroom-based training, assessing driver competence and supporting the recruitment and development of new and existing drivers.

Pay, working hours & benefits

Pay: £18.22 per hour plus a £60 weekly supplement. Guaranteed a certain number of hours per week. Flexibility may be required as training and assessments can occur on different shift patterns to support the operation.

Hours: 45 hours per week, primarily day shifts and early starts including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical training to new and existing Class 1 (C+E) drivers.
  • Conduct driver interviews, driving assessments and recruitment assessments for prospective drivers.
  • Deliver structured inductions for newly recruited drivers.
  • Assess driver competence and provide constructive coaching and feedback to improve performance.
  • Identify training needs and develop individual action plans where required.
  • Promote safe, legal and fuel‑efficient driving practices in line with company standards and current legislation.
  • Carry out refresher training and remedial coaching following incidents, complaints or performance concerns.
  • Support Driver CPC training and ensure drivers remain compliant with current legislation and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate training, assessment and compliance records.
  • Liaise with the Transport Management team to monitor driver performance and recommend improvements.
  • Support new drivers throughout their probation period, providing mentoring and ongoing development.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and ensure best practice is maintained across the driver team.

Qualifications

  • A full UK driving licence with Class 1 (C+E) entitlement.
  • A valid Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Previous experience as a Driver Trainer, Driver Assessor or in a similar driver development role (or significant operational Class 1 driving experience with a desire to move into training).
  • Excellent knowledge of DVSA regulations, drivers’ hours rules and road transport legislation.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills with the ability to build confidence and develop others.
  • Good organisational and administration skills with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • A friendly, positive and professional approach to work.
