Specialist Mechanical Craftsperson

As a Mechanical Craftsperson you will install, maintain, service, and repair a diverse range of estate services equipment, ensuring the safety and reliability of our facility’s mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities
- Calibrate, fault find, and repair engineering plant and equipment, including medical gas systems, heating and ventilation systems, steam, domestic water services, and other hospital plant.
- Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical engineering plant and equipment, handling new and unusual situations.
- Re‑assemble, erect, and install new work.
- Plan and organise complex activities such as shutdowns and power interruptions.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with maintenance manuals and trust procedures.
- Follow detailed engineering drawings and specifications and use relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines.
- Work autonomously across trust sites, ensuring patient, public and staff safety.
- Participate in statutory training and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications
- BTEC HNC/HND, Approved Apprenticeship, City and Guilds or NVQ III Technician Certificate or equivalent.
- Qualifications and experience in Control Systems or Mechanical/Motor Control, Medical Gas Pipeline and Vacuum Systems, Decontamination Equipment and Sterilisation.
Experience
- Workload assessment and allocation.
- Experience working in an industrial or hospital maintenance environment.
- Mechanical services systems maintenance.
- Experience with mechanical systems, natural gas systems, and hospital settings.
Knowledge
- Mechanical services and electrical control systems.
- Hospital equipment, ventilation and cooling, steam systems, and building management systems.
Skills
- High quality mechanical work: fault finding, installation, maintenance.
- Administration: updating worksheets, job tickets, data entry, PPM worksheets.
- Effective verbal and written communication with senior management and clinical users.
- Leadership: capable of standing in for a supervisor, prioritising work, issuing job tickets.
- Teamwork and independent working ability.
- Pipe welding.

Salary
£32,073 to £39,043 per year, pro rata, plus £5,000 per annum.
