We are looking for 4 Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians to join the Pharmacy services within Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust. The role will be based at Central/Summerhill Pharmacy in Erdington with rotations to our Pharmacy at HMP Birmingham, Winson Green and Reaside Clinic in Rubery. This is a full‑time fixed‑term contract for 2 years.
The salary for this training post is band 3. You will receive 27 days annual leave per year plus bank holidays. Normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week with one late night per week (subject to change). Training will be at the Central/Summerhill Pharmacies, Reaside Clinic, and HMP Birmingham, with attendance at Birmingham Metropolitan College or Walsall College one day per week. The role commences in September 2026, leading to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians qualification.
The successful candidate will work within mental health, prison and secure care services during training, completing a wide range of experiences, including dispensing prescriptions, store management, procurement, and medicines optimisation.

Main duties of the job
- Work alongside pharmacy professionals and gain competencies in dispensary, stores, and procurement duties, as well as ward‑based activities such as stock top‑ups, individual patient medication ordering, and medicines reconciliation.
- Contribute to medicine supply and management across the health service; post‑qualification career opportunities include medicines management, manufacturing, quality control, staff training, IT, supplies procurement, clinical trials, medicines information services, and department management.
- Study to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma, enabling application for registration as a Pharmacy Technician. Training and support will be provided by work‑based assessors and college tutors.

Salary: £25,760 to £27,476 per annum, pro rata.
